The Merger
Why are Firefighters Credit Union and P&S Credit Union merging?
Both credit unions have focused on providing exceptional service and great value for their members for decades. Joining together makes us a stronger credit union, with about $94 million in assets, 5,700 members, and three locations. That added strength lets us keep delivering the personal service you expect while investing in new products and technology.
Who is P&S Credit Union?
P&S Credit Union was founded in 1956 to serve the Plumbers and Steamfitters union. It has since grown to serve members of a variety of local unions.
When will the merger take place?
The merger has been approved by the Utah Department of Financial Institutions and the National Credit Union Administration. P&S members will vote on the merger beginning October 1st. If they approve it, the merger will take effect December 1, 2026.
Do I need to vote?
No. Because Firefighters Credit Union is the continuing credit union, FFCU members are not required to vote.
What happens if P&S members don't approve the merger?
The Board of Directors and management of P&S Credit Union fully support the merger, and we expect a positive outcome to the member vote. However, if P&S members do not approve the merger, it will not take place, and nothing will change for Firefighters Credit Union or its members.
Your Accounts
Do I need to do anything?
No. Your accounts will continue to work exactly as they do today.
Will my account number, cards, checks, or routing number change?
No. All of them stay the same.
Will online and mobile banking change?
No. You'll continue to use online and mobile banking just as you do now.
Will my rates or fees change because of the merger?
No. There are no changes to FFCU rates or fees as a result of the merger. If any account terms change in the future, we will notify you in advance as required by law.
Are my deposits still insured?
Yes. Your deposits remain federally insured by NCUA up to at least $250,000 per member, per ownership category.
I have accounts at both FFCU and P&S. How does that affect my insurance?
Your P&S deposits will be insured separately from your FFCU deposits for six months after the merger. Certificates opened at P&S before the merger will be insured separately until they mature. After that, all of your deposits will be combined for insurance purposes. If your combined balances might exceed insurance limits, please call us so we can review your options.
I have accounts at both credit unions. Will they be combined?
Until operations are combined, you'll continue to use your P&S accounts just as you do today. We'll contact you before any changes are made to those accounts.
Branches and Service
Is the Firefighters Credit Union name changing?
No. Firefighters Credit Union is the continuing credit union. The P&S branch will continue to operate as P&S Credit Union, a division of Firefighters Credit Union.
Can I use the P&S branch?
Not right away. Combining the two credit unions' operations and systems is expected to take up to a year. Once that work is complete, FFCU members will be welcome at the P&S branch, and P&S members will be welcome at FFCU branches. We'll let you know when that happens.
Where is the P&S branch?
2250 S Redwood Rd #6, Salt Lake City, UT 84119.
Are FFCU's hours or branches changing?
No. Our branches remain open 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Will I still work with the same FFCU staff?
Yes. FFCU's staff will remain at the FFCU branches, and P&S's staff will remain at the P&S branch.
Leadership

Leadership of Firefighters Credit Union will remain the same: Thomas R. Gourdin, President/CEO; Gary McMullin, utive Vice President; and Michelle Lund, Chief Operating Officer.

Two members of the P&S Board of Directors will join the Firefighters Credit Union Board of Directors, so P&S members will be represented as we move forward together.
